commemorate the Karbala' Tragedy!

Imam Husayn (AS) has said: “If the religion of Muhammad is not upheld except
by my killing, then Oh swords take me...”

Tragedy of Karbala

Imam Husayn (AS), the Chief of the Martyrs, the second son of Imam ‘Ali (AS)
and Hadhrat Fatemah az-Zahra (AS), the third Holy Imam of the Shi’ites was
martyred along with his 72 faithful followers on Tenth of Muharram
(‘Ashoura), 61 Hejrah in Karbala (Iraq).

The martyrdom of Imam Husayn (AS) uprooted despotism forever till the Day of
Judgement. He watered the dry garden of freedom with surging wave of his
sacred blood, and indeed he awakened the sleeping Muslim Ummah. Though Imam
Husayn (AS) was martyred with his family and companions, it were the martyrs
of Karbala who were the real victors.

The institution of mourning (‘azadari) over Imam Husayn (AS) has became a
vehicle for the propagation of almost everything that Islam stand for and
has the power to unite the different schools of thought in Islam, and
‘azadari also makes a powerful appeal to non-Muslims throughout the world.

The events of Karbala reflect the collision of the good versus the evil, the
virtuous versus the wicked, and the collision of Imam Husayn (the head of
virtue) versus Yazid (the head of impiety). al-Husayn was a revolutionary
person, a righteous man, the religious authority, the Imam of Muslim Ummah.
As the representative of his grandfather Prophet Muhammad (S), Imam Husayn’s
main concern was to safeguard and protect Islam and guide fellow Muslims. On
the other hand, the staying power of the rulers (Mu’awiyah and his son
Yazid) depended solely on the might of the sword. They used brute force to
rule over the Muslim empire even by all possible illicit means.

On this Sorrowful and Mourning Occasion of the Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam
Husayn (AS) and his 72 faithful followers we express our Heartfelt Grief and
Condolences to lovers of the Ahlul-Bayt (AS) and to our present Imam
al-Mahdi (May God Hasten His Reappearance).
